If you are looking for a career within finance, and are a computer programmer, you should find a company where technology is considered critical to the success of the company. Tower is such a company. Nearly everyone here is a computer programmer, and most are computer scientists (others are Mathematicians, Physicists, etc.) Everyone is extremely intelligent, with pedigrees from the best schools.
I am a Stanford Alumni (MS '97, PhD Candidate), who founded a series of successful startup companies, before landing in the finance world in New York City. I then discovered tower as an excellent mix of the west coast corporate culture, where I started, and the world of finance in New York City, where I have chosen to live. I joined the company 1 year ago, and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. My only regret is that I did not find this company sooner after I had moved to New York City.
Working here often reminds me of graduate school, with respect to working on challenging problems, and with very bright people, in a relatively relaxed environment. However, the frequent (free) outings and meals we have here are something I did not enjoy in grad school.
