Burnt-out at Amazon

Amazon.com / Seattle, WA job review

"Just here for the paycheck"
Contrary to what they said when offering you a job, 50 hours a week is normal and during busy season it can get to 70 hours or more. They expect people to be very "customer centric" and not to take time off to be with family (!). In view of this the salary isn't particularly good; many people earn a fair amount from the stock though.

Some colleagues are the smartest people I have ever worked with and I did learned a lot from them. Nonetheless it happened more than once when I was out of luck I had to correct all mistakes others made.

While I do made very good friend with some colleagues here, most managers do not respect their employees - not to mention temps are viewed as 'lower-class' citizens. Some managers take 100 smoke breaks a day and they could walk to your desk and yelled randomly about your work. Getting blamed by managers for their own mistakes is not uncommon. In general I enjoy the work but frustration does exist and I foresee that I will get burnt out some day.
