The Comany:
As start ups go, Baynote is in a great position right now! We're past the stage about worrying about funding or if people are going to buy our product. We have a great list of customers already (TurboTax, Expedia, NASA, Motorola, Intuit...), which I think provides pretty good validation to the value our product provides. Also, the company treats its employees well with good pay/benefits/etc (not that i have a whole lot to compare with...but i havent heard any complaints)
The product:
we are a Software as a service company that provides product and content recommendations, as well as making search better using "social search". The key thing that sets us apart is that we make us of the "wisdom of the crowd" to come up with our recommendations...not the creepy individual profiling/targeting that some people seem to think is a good idea. I love that we aren't creepy, and that our product performs better than those with a higher creep-factor.
The People/Culture:
Baynote has a non-political company culture, and everyone is pretty comfortable talking with everyone else. There is also a wide range of people here, from Silicon Valley veterans to a fun group of 20-somethings recently out of college. We definitely don't splurge on spending for cushy non-essentials, although we do have a good number of fun company events and team activities. In general we really believe in our product and are excited to do what we can to move the company forward.
Solutions Engineer position:
Solutions Engineers are part of the Customer Operations team, which is in charge of implementing and supporting our customers for the Baynote product. I'd say the job is a mix of project management, engineering/web development, and customer support. Its a great mix for someone with a technical background but who doesn't necessarily want to be an engineer. We're a pretty close-knit team that has a lot of fun together (we're also the youngest team age-wise, the vast majority of us in our mid-20s) There's a LOT of opportunity for everyone to have a big impact on the team and the company's success as a whole. Another great thing about the team is that we work closely with all aspects of the company...we have a lot of interaction with the engineers about product updates/fixes, and we also can be involved in the sales process at times. In summary, we're pretty much the best team at the company..not that the others aren't great too =)
COME WORK WITH US! We're going to be hiring like crazy for 2009! http://www.baynote.com/company/careers/
