Lots of unpaid overtime

IBM / Raleigh, NC job review

2006 to Present
"Don't hate the job but don't love it"
Best:
Very smart colleagues
Worst:
Overtime hours that don't count
IBM is absolutely amazing with its average quality of employee, given the sheer size of it (390,000 employees worldwide). The talent here, both engineering and managerial, are top-notch. Since the start of the last century, IBM has re-invented itself several times to adapt to the changing business and technical environment. And there's a great deal to learn from this adaptability.

However, workload is surprisingly overwhelming, given that there're so many employees sharing the work. The sheer size of IBM sometimes gives us the ability to achieve the impossible, but at times its a drag to our productivity. Even worse, most of the extra hours that we work are not compensated in any meaningful ways. Bonuses are horrible, both in industry standard and in absolute terms (meaning 0-2%). Often the managers are not on site, making it hard to address these issues.
